Life is a gift worth keeping

Today’s Ottawa winner is especially poignant in light of the London bombings. There are so many in this world that will think nothing of destroying someone else’s life just to further their cause, ideology, or religion. We often feel powerless over forces that are so overwhelming and destructive and just so damn intent on nothing but power and control…Even if it means killing another human being. Its the power the drug dealer clings to. Its the false control felt by the user. Its the power of the politicians. Its the control of the media. Lives are taken from us today. People on their way to work for their families and for a little happiness are GONE. Why? WHY? Over what? Because one side is trying to prove that their god is right…And the other side fights back trying to prove that “NO my god and MY way of life is the true way.” What a bunch of crap! And now more people are dead. There’s an old African proverb that says “When the elephants fight. The grass suffers.” Well yesterday big forces were fighting like elephants and its us “little folks” that paid the price…Again. It can make you feel small. It can make you feel insignificant. It can make you lose hope. But don’t lose hope.
Just remember that you are the captain of your ship and its your friends and family that really care about you.
That dude with the dimebag don’t care ’bout you.
That guy on the bus with bomb don’t care ’bout you.
Lil Goergie Bush sure as hell don’t care ’bout you.
The guy on the newscast don’t care ’bout you.
That politician in the suit don’t care bout you.
You and your family and your friends are what is really important and making a difference in somebody’s life is what really matters.
Holding your girlfriend’s hand.
Smiling at your Mom.
Walking after the rain.
Petting your dog.
Admiring the bright bright stars.
Listening to the best song in the world while driving with the windows down.
These are the things that matter. Don’t forget them.

Below is an awesome poem from another of the great kids of Ottawa, Illinois.
