Love. Angels. Light.
ByAs we look out and consider this amazing time of change and hope for so many I find myself returning to a few simple truths.
As much as I believe in hope and change I know that politics is limited and is what it is.
Politics is a human construct to regulate social order.
Political systems are fleeting and temporary. And they are not life.
Real life goes on despite politics.
What things are timeless or dare I say eternal?
I know that if we were living in 1930′s Germany there would still
be love stories in secret.
If we were living in ancient Egypt. Desire. Jealousy
If we were on a civil war battlefield. Disease. Honor.
And no matter we starve or thrive.
No matter we free or in chains.
There are those human things that transcend. Things that can make a man believe.
That can make a junkie want to get clean. That can make a mother work three jobs for a child.
Things that can make me take a bullet for another. Things that drive all to do what they do.
Things that can make me shut up.
In the movie “faraway so close” by german director Wim Wenders there is an angel. An angel who has forsaken his wings to become human and feel what mankind feels. He asks questions and investigates simple human life. He asks a friend’s wife, who is waitressing at a bar, a timeless question over his drink.
ANGEL: “I’ve always wanted to know. whether the world is the same
for men and for women.
Are women different?”
WAITRESS: “Women are human beings. They carry a human light.
Men search and search…until they find the warmth
that they’re always missing. Until they’re understood.
That’s all I can say.”
